Bike Nashbar? More like FAILbar.

Dear Nashbar,
I am writing in regards to your product description for the item listed in your catalog as Nashbar Market Bag Pannier (Item NA-MKBG). I strongly suggest you rethink describing a pink, flowery, grocery-style bag as "[t]he perfect pannier for female cyclists", as to the reader this might imply that female cyclists only use their bicycles for casual shopping trips, further implying that a female would not be a serious cyclist. Given the array of dedicated women's cycling gear and clothing in the catalog, I can only hope that such a sexist implication was unintended, but again, I urge you to reconsider your wording on this and any other descriptions that might belie your support of women as serious participants in the cycling world.

Aargh - I've been slacking

I realized I haven't blogged in awhile. I want to write about the excellent experiences I had over the past weekend (as well as a bunch of other stuff). Soon.

My lucky day

I need to buy a lottery ticket today. Or maybe just go ask people on the street for money, since it seems to be more my powers of persuasion rather than my luck that's been working overtime. This morning I received a notification that I've been awarded a substantial fellowship which will pay for 2 months interning at the Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha, South Africa, as well as a semester interning at the MSU Museum, learning to curate. Then, this afternoon, I got another email telling me that my department is providing funds for me to travel to St. Louis for a conference in April. I had applied for both of these things, but honestly, when I submitted those letters, I didn't expect to receive either. So to get both in one day - !!! - well, honestly, it's wonderful.
I really do lead a charmed life - so I also try to live up to it.
